American Farmland Trust - Mid-Atlantic Regional Office
American Farmland Trust is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1980 to protect our nation's farmland. AFT works to stop the loss of productive farmland and to promote farming practices that lead to a healthy environment. The web site includes:
  • An extensive library at www.farmlandinfo.org with research, literature, news, farm bill information, and more
  • Links and contact information for AFT regional offices, which can help you with local food and farming matters
  • Technical resources, national conference information, job opportunities, and more.

American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC)
The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy is a nonprofit membership organization working to protect nearly 100 breeds of cattle, goats, horses, asses, sheep, swine and poultry from extinction. The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy's programs include research on breed population size, distribution and genetic health; research on breed characteristics; gene banks to preserve genetic material from endangered breeds; rescues of threatened populations; education about genetic diversity and the role of livestock in sustainable agriculture; and technical support to a network of breeders, breed associations, and farmers. Their site offers publications, memberships, links, and event calendars.

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) / Mountain Partners in Agriculture (MPIA)
Three-year initiative by MPIA and Mountain Valleys Resource Conservation and Development Council to establish community-based food systems and links between local producers and consumers in western North Carolina (5 counties). Support for farming transitions focused on organic vegetables, herbs, natural meat, and organic burley tobacco. Action programs on direct marketing methods, as well as effective farmland preservation strategies and community-based sustainable agriculture policy development.

BuyGreen Virginia Partnership
The BuyGreen Virginia Project provides information about certified organic producers and ecological producers in Virginia, linking consumers with local organic and sutainable farmers. The site also has general information about Virginia's organic certification program, BuyGreen labeling, and the Ecological Production Pledge.

Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA)
Non-profit membership organization for farmers, consumers and gardeners focused on sustainable agriculture in the Carolinas. CFSA publishes the Stewardship News and sponsors an annual Sustainable Agriculture conference, farm tours, and workshops.

Community Farm Alliance
CFA is a Kentucky-based grassroots organization committed to family-scale farming as the most efficient and sustainable method of producing agricultural products. Their site provides membership opportunities, issue areas research, events calendars, and a community bulletin board. Issue areas include economic justice, sustainable agriculture, industrial agriculture, dairy, and tobacco.
